1.Lasting and hurting are different things

A lot of advice treats permanent and dangerous as the same word. They are not. A username you picked in a hurry lasts for ever and will most likely never matter. A recovery phrase you gave away also lasts for ever and matters immediately. The difference is whether anything acts on it.

Everything in this section only lasts. There is no moment where it goes off. The cost, when there is one, comes from several small permanent things lining up with each other, which is why the pages here are more interested in what you add next than in what you already did.

3.The one useful instruction

You cannot undo any of these. You can stop adding to them. That sounds like a platitude until you look at what adding means in practice: reusing a name because it is easier to remember, keeping a key because regenerating one is a nuisance, writing the same way everywhere because that is how you write.

None of those are dramatic decisions. That is the point. They are the low effort choice at a moment when the low effort choice is available, and the reason they are here is that the low effort choice is the one that repeats.

4.Why a fresh start is the only reset

That is a real cost, and most people will decide it is not worth paying. This site is not going to pretend otherwise. What it will do is make sure the decision is made knowingly rather than by default, which is the difference between a handle you brought with you and a handle you chose to bring.
